I saw the book Peonies by Allan Rogers in its hardback edition (, ISBN ). It was indeed a good book. Since the original edition is now out of print, I have purchased the paperback edition (, ISBN )/5(24).

There are three distinct groups of peonies: the herbaceous Eurasian peonies, the Asian tree, or moutan, peonies, and the North American peonies. The herbaceous peonies are perennials that grow to a height of almost 1 metre (about 3 feet).

They have large, glossy, much-divided leaves borne on annual stems produced by fleshy rootstocks. In late spring and early summer they produce large single.

The peony or paeony is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the family are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America.

Scientists differ on the number of species that can be distinguished, ranging from 25 to 40, although the current consensus is 33 known species. The relationships between the species need to be further : Angiosperms.
